In 1862 the sea broke through the tongue and created what now is known as Thyborøn Channel. Thyborøn has one of the country’s biggest fishing ports with many businesses affiliated with the industry.
There live about 2.500 people on the outermost part of the land. Fish is still the pivotal point when it comes to foods and industry, but also experiences. During the summer holidays you can experience the weekly fish auction, where you are able to bid on freshlanded fish – in August you should not miss the yearly Fish Festival, where the nationally-known local band, Tørfisk, gets everybody rocking.
Thyborøn has a unique shopping life with a great selection of specialty stores, which are open all year around. Here you can experience some of Denmark’s best service and personal contact with both the store owners and passionate personnel.
