Since the time of the Vikings, the fjord has been an important waterway to the smaller ships connecting the Limfjord area with the rest of Denmark. It also linked the area to England and Norway in particular when there was access to the North Sea. Fishing for eel, herring, oysters and mussels above all was also very important up until the 1970s.
The Limfjord is one of the best places to go sailing in Europe. Its many harbours are certainly worth visiting. In addition, most water sports are possible here, including sailing, sea kayaking and windsurfing. The fjord also offers unique fishing, parachute jumping, paragliding and diving opportunities.
